2012

Well, 2012 kept me somewhat "busy", mainly with doctors.

In the middle of the year I had an ablation at Concord Hospital with Dr. Michael Kilmore. That seemed to go fairly well, although a follow up visit revealed some problems with the aortic valve.

I was given number of tests, and referred to Dr. Nick Hendel, a cardio-thoracic surgeon at RPA. He ordered an MRI scan, and recommended that I really wait until at least March 2013  when I will have some more tests. "If it was my heart I wouldn't be doing anything." Dr. Patel has done some more tests and is sort of happy with my progress.

So things are on hold till at least March, and hopefully surgery is off the agenda. I have certainly been getting my money's worth out of Medicare.

Cricket went ahead as usual. Mackillop cricket was held at Leeton, and given that I had only just had the ablation I decided not to go. Anyway, at this stage the next Mackillop trials will be in Wagga Wagga due to the facilities in the larger city. 2013 will see ac change of venue for Eastern Suburbs and St. George to the SCG Indoor Cricket Centre, and Sydney and Sydney/Parramatta/Wollongong will be at Panania and/or Peakhurst. Patrician Brothers' College Fairfield were very good to us over the years, but time and people move on, and it was time for a change.

Jesus, The Teacher

Jesus, The Teacher
He never taught a lesson in a classroom...
He had no tools to work with, no computers, no smartboards, no whiteboards, no blackboards, maps or charts...
He used no subject outlines, kept no records, gave no grades,
and His only text was ancient and well worn.
His students were the poor, the lame, the deaf, the blind, the outcast...
And His method was the same with all who came to hear and learn...
He opened eyes to faith...
He opened ears with simple truth...
And opened hearts with love, a love born of forgiveness...
A gentle man, a humble man,
He asked and won no honours, no gold awards of tribute to His expertise
Or wisdom...
And yet this quiet teacher from the hills of Galilee has fed the needs,
Fulfilled the hopes, and changed the lives of many millions...
For what He taught, brought heaven to earth and God's heart to mankind.

One Solitary Life

One Solitary Life

He was born in an obscure village.
He worked in a carpenter shop
until he was thirty.
He then became an itinerant preacher.
He never held an office.
He never had a family or owned a house.
He didn’t go to university.
He had no credentials but himself….

Twenty centuries have come and gone,
and today he is the central figure of the human race.
All the armies that ever marched,
all the navies that ever sailed,
all the parliaments that ever sat,
all the kings that ever reigned
have not affected the life of man on this earth
as much as that….

ONE SOLITARY LIFE

Slowly, slowly

Yesterday, Saturday 28 April, I walked around to the Pathology Collection Centre opposite Auburn Hospital. Then, in a moment of what many may see as complete madness, I walked to Auburn Shopping Centre. I stopped for a while in the shopping centre. Firstly at Oporto for a quick snack, and then checked out the new Cincotta Chemist in the old Woolworths store. I then walked back home.

For those who wanted to put me out to pasture, this will be very bad news. I have always said I am not going to sit around waiting to fall off the perch. For everyone else, it is certainly a good sign. As I have said before, I am still a long, long way from being back to normal, but their are certainly signs of improvement.

2012 - Year of the Farmer

Easter Show 2012

Well, in my biggest week in close to 12 months, I have spent 2 days at the 2012 Sydney Royal Easter Show.

My favourite of course was the woodchopping. The only comment I would make as I get older is that maybe they need to think about individual seating both at the woodchop and the dogs. I realise this may not be possible due to the way the stands were originally constructed.

The main arena is looking good and getting closer to being finished. There is certainly some room for picking up the entertainment in the main arena especially after the horse events are finished. I like the rodeo, tentpegging, police musical ride,.... but some of the singers were just a little ordinary. At one stage every one around me was on their iPhone or iPad because things in the arena were getting boring.

I didn't go near the amusement rides or showbags. Nothing new with that.

My only other comment is that in the members section the only food available was either in the Charley Restaurant and Hordern Cafe, and a little bit of an ice-cream bar. Otherwise, you have to get your food before you come in or leave and then come back.

As always I am already looking forward to the 2013 Show.

Paramatta now last

How many more excuses do Parramatta need? They are now last, yes, stone motherless last. The whole place needs a good clean out from top to bottom. The players, the coaches, the administration - no one appears to be showing any enthusiasm or passion at all.

Queensland Election

First it was Western Australia, then Victoria followed by New South Wales. And now Queensland.

When are the ALP going to wake up and listen to the grass root members. Local branches are well and truly over not getting a say in who their local member will be. If your lucky you might get a vote for a council pre-selection and maybe the ticket order for the council. I have been a member for 24 years and NEVER had a say in who the local federal or state member will be. They just get shoe-horned in by the State Office. I am still yet to work out how you would ever get onto the ticket for the Senate or NSW Upper House. How does anyone get on the Administrative Committee?

It would seem that there are some unions, branches and factions that have more than their fair say. And some of the people they put in, do not stand for what may be called "traditional Labor values".

The same thing is more than likely going to happen at the next Federal election. Maybe then there will be some real change in the ALP.

Parramatta - just awful

Parramatta are just awful. Their start to the 2012 is pretty much disgraceful. The only question for 2012 is will they win a game at all?

Back again

Well after a sort of enforced break, I am back. My health is certainly on the improve, but may never really get back to where I was, but we will see. Despite many people saying I should just stay at home and wait to fall off the perch, that won't be happening. I do appreciate the concern that many are showing, but they would know that I won't be easily giving up my commitments at the Church, ALP or with cricket.
